Between Folds/Bananas

Bananas: The Literary Newspaper; N.1 to N.9 (1975 – 1977). Published and edited by the novelist Emma Tennant, designed by Julian Rothenstein ; 2 Blenheim Crescent, Notting Hill Gate.

Between Folds / Bananas is inspired by the content of this British literary newspaper and by Russian Constructivist graphics. This newspaper was beautifully designed and illustrated, containing stories and essays by some of the most influential British writers. In this work, Francisca pays homage to constructivist graphic design by using its most characteristic elements: she creates a diagonal with a close up of the letter ‘A’’, and builds up the content of the newspaper at an angle. This work was privately commissioned.
