a series of contemporary sculptural vessels created using traditional handcraft techniques and sustainably sourced natural materials. Each piece is hand-formed from rush gathered from the local Buckinghamshire landscape, reflecting a strong connection to place, seasonality, and the natural environment. The harvested rush is carefully dried and prepared before being shaped through a slow, labour-intensive process that combines coiling and hand stitching.
Using thread and locally sourced beeswax, the rush is manipulated into sculptural forms that explore ideas of organic growth, movement, and transformation. The beeswax enhances the tactile qualities of the material while contributing to the structural integrity and surface character of each vessel. The resulting works blur the boundary between functional object and sculpture, drawing attention to the inherent beauty and versatility of natural fibres.
The making process is deliberately slow and intuitive, allowing each vessel to develop its own distinctive form.
